Patricia Alvarez Astacio is an anthropologist and filmmaker whose scholarly research and creative practices develops in the folds between ethnography, critical theory, and the documentary arts. Her more recent works converge on issues of gender and ethnic representation in neoliberal, post-authoritarian Peru. She completed her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology with a Designated Emphasis in Film and Digital Mediaand her BA in from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality at Rice University. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Department at Brandeis University and the co-director of the Society for Visual Anthropology Film and Media Festival.
